Hi there,My name is Liam, the founder and teacher at Zen Men.I am 32 and have been practicing Yoga since I was 16. I was encourage by my mother in order to support my sore back that I had as a result of being so tall. I started in a small village hall in Wylam surrounded by middle age women. I then discovered there was far more to Yoga when I began practicing alongside my performance course at East 15. I was trained by my teachers Martin and Fran Thompson who were in turn taught by Patabi Jois. My teaching is therefore rather traditional in its style. It has evolved into small, digestible vinyasas that focus on different sections of the body whilst honoring intuitive movement and emotional release. Whilst having a disciplined nature which allows me guide people to deeper levels of growth, I am able to do this with good humour and laughter. I believe in a high standard in my teaching as well with a student-centred focus. My mission with Zen Men is to open Yoga up to more men in the North-East. I want to break down pre-concieved ideas that it is just for women or that men cannot be flexible. I value the lessons that Yoga has taught me both about how to my body works but also how a steady mind and an open heart can allow for greater connections with people, environments and my experience through life. My main aim is to teach the same class each week to promote flow with small variations and adjustments. Whilst also allowing people to learn a sequence they can practice whenever they wish throughout their life. Incorporated into these sessions are always breathwork and meditation which bring great benefits to everyday life. I have a great belief in the goodness of community. I wish for Zen Men to be a hub for men to feel connected to other men in a genuine and heartfelt way whilst feeling supported by a community of likeminded individuals. The male orientated session would hopefully allow the fostering of brotherhood and support in male mental health. I would hope to expand the classes to men's workshops and sharing circles where we can all feel part of a community that is interested in each other's self-development.I was teaching during my Community Performance course in 2018 and was invited to teach online and in person after I had finished my training. Following this I began to teach a variety of festivals around the UK as well as community gatherings as part of the schedule of the event. During the Pandemic, I set up regular online yoga and breathwork classes. After the pandemic, I worked with ReCoCo to make a complete 8 week program to take people on a deep dive to make their own personal practice and discover the other parts of Ashtanga Yoga such as Yamas and Niyamas as well as the Pranic system. I then moved to Manchester where I taught regular weekly classes at 2 separate gyms and a yoga studio. This is also where I began my 1-1 teaching practice. I am now back in Newcastle and wanting to join the Yoga community as a teacher. If you want to find out more about my ethos and teachings have a listen to this episode of The Better Days Project where I share a little bit about my Yoga journey: https://open.spotify.com/episode/5yntap3W6KfTa9ZHanAmro?si=4de84f4315414c0bI hope you choose to join the clan of Gentle Men within Zen Men so we can all be part of a revolution of kindness.
