St John Ambulance Cymru is the first aid charity for Wales. Established in 1918, our mission is to save lives and enhance the health and wellbeing of Welsh communities. Supported by more than 2,800 volunteers, we deliver frontline services and vital support to our emergency services when they need us most. St John Ambulance Cymru are also part of something much bigger, an independent Priory of the Order of St John, which is a working Order of Chivalry. Our services across Wales include:First aid and health and safety training: We deliver over 34 different first aid courses, including Mental Health First Aid plus many more subjects in other fields. In 2022 we trained and demonstrated lifesaving skills 38,879 people.Patient Transport: We made 28,330 hospital transport patient journeys last year covering 722,649 miles and our Falls Assistants helped more than 8,090 people who had fallen and needed help. This saved nearly 60% of people a trip to hospital and frontline ambulances could be sent where the need was greater.First Aid and emergency response: We provide first aid cover for nearly 400 large and community-led events and support wider resilience across Wales; such as COVID deployments, extreme weather deployments and supporting in rest centres during Major Incidents. In 2022 our volunteers gave 41,620 volunteer hours to help keep the people of Wales safe.Children and Young People: We run programmes for children and young people from the age of 5, giving them the opportunity to learn and grow through meetings, events and experiential learning. We have 1,564 youth members across Wales who attend local groups in their communities.
