Giving back to our community; Uplifting the voices of tomorrow.Founded by the late Michael Coleman (MC), the Cowichan Foundation is a non-profit registered society concerned about the community and its needs. The Foundation offers multiple scholarships through local university, VIU and is comprised of board members from all walks of life with a shared love for the community. After MC's passing in 2021, the Cowichan Foundation created a youth poetry competition to honour his legacy of beautiful poetry and unequivocal service to the Cowichan Valley. The foundation aims to support tomorrow's leaders by uplifting local youth voices and encouraging participation in the arts. The contest, which runs annually during the spring, offers cash prizes up to $5000 and is open to high school aged students in the Cowichan Valley and Ganges areas. Students submit their original poetry or spoken word piece along with a video performance to complement. Each fall, the Foundation hosts a showcase event to celebrate the fantastic entries received and share the students' talents with the community and their peers. For more information or to become a sponsor, visit the Cowichan Foundation website www.cowichanfoundation.com
