Originally from Saitama, Japan, I began my diverse journey as a stage lighting designer in Tokyo for ten years. My deep interest in traditional Japanese dances and culture greatly influences my work. Additionally, I have learned practically through my work the spirit of Japanese craftsmanship through the long history of stage culture.I majored in Philosophy in Buddhism at university in Tokyo, which helped me understand the Japanese mentality and the social aspects ofWabi-Sabiand theZenconcept. Since moving outside Japan in 2002, my appreciation for Japan’s traditional heritage and techniques has only deepened, particularly my respect for Japanese craftsmanship.Today,Kintsugiphilosophy and the art ofurushi(Japanese lacquer) are central to my work.Kintsugiallows me to embrace imperfection both mentally and physically, while exploringurushigives me insights into Japanese traditions and customs.It is my pleasure to share the knowledge and techniques ofKintsugiwith a wide audience to spread Japanese culture and philosophy.
