The inspiration behind No Song No Surprises traces back to the 1820s, when Toronto's earliest recorded musical theatre performance, No Song, No Supper, took place. The word 'Supper' is now replaced with 'Surprises', to reflect the rapid migration and evolution of multicultural influences, in the post-millennium internet era.Our logo design draws from the thrill and randomness of a gashapon (capsule toy) machine, and each turning brings the fresh anticipation of a new unknown capsule. We hope the audience can associate NOS with the feeling of discovering musical surprises every time they engage with us.The items inside the capsule, such as the guitar, vinyl, little monster, hot dog, and mysterious tail, they represent various music genres and attitudes, in an unorthodox, nonsensical way. Overall, the design of the logo adopts a sketch-like, hand-drawn style, blending a raw, playful aesthetic with underlying thoughtfulness.nosongnosurprises@gmail.com
