His collaborations included a significant stint in a trio with jazz legends Stanley Turrentine and Shirley Scott in 1962. He made notable contributions to Horace Silver's celebrated albums, including *Song for My Father* (1964) and *The Cape Verdean Blues* (1965), where he shared the stage with esteemed artists such as Joe Henderson and Woody Shaw. His versatility also led him to perform with iconic figures like Ray Charles, Lee Morgan, Dizzy Gillespie, and many others.In the early 1970s, Humphries founded his own band, R.H. Factor, and continued to lead various ensembles through the 1990s.
