The Scottish Leisure Network Group was formed by Bobby Kerr of West Dunbartonshire Council in October 2003 after witnessing a need to improve how his organisations’ Leisure Services could benchmark and share best practice with other local authority leisure providers throughout Scotland.Making contact with other leisure services, he discovered that he was not alone in his thinking and on 20th October 2003 at Bell’s Sport Centre in Perth, with representatives from West Dunbartonshire, Perth & Kinross, East Lothian, South Lanarkshire, Angus and Fife in attendance, the very first SLNG meeting took place.Fast forward to 2021, where the SLNG now represents almost all of Scotland’s regions encompassing not-for-profit leisure operators from local authorities, charitable trusts, university and college sectors across 46 member organisations.Bobby’s vision to come together and share best practice has led to the SLNG being committed to our purpose to connect and support Scotland’s not-for-profit leisure providers to improve the health and wellbeing of the nation. With the creation of an Executive Committee in 2018 to help serve and coordinate the events schedule for SLNG members, the team are committed to delivering value to members as individuals and their organisations through the provision of a platform for the sharing of sector knowledge and expertise across Scotland to help them improve their operations and create positive change in their communities.
