Mz Money Works is a nickname for best-selling financial author Teneshia LaFaye, who is an award-winning journalist. She has occupied the financial education space since 2009, when she purchased her first home in her early 30s while raising her two sons. When she was a sports writer in her 20s, she struggled to make ends meet on her $20 an hour job, which is $35 an hour in today's dollars. At that time, she found out that the Social Security Trust Fund was projected to be bankrupt before she would even be old enough to benefit from it, and she learned that 9 out of every 10 retirees are broke! So she decided to become smarter with money and then turned around to teach teens and young adults so that they don't have to make the same financial mistakes that she made throughout her 20s.
