The Bosnian Blue River Choir, also known as Modra Rijeka is a choir of refugee women from Bosnia, formed to showcase the vibrancy of the Balkans and Bosnia to audiences in Australia, with a repertoire including traditional Bosnian Sevdalinka, arias from world operas, and popular folk songs.Origin & Purpose:The choir began in 1997, founded by choir conductor Sladjana Hodzic, with the goal of sharing Bosnian culture and music in Australia.Repertoire:Their performances feature traditional Bosnian Sevdalinka (a type of Bosnian folk song), arias from world operas, and popular folk songs.Connection to Bosnian CommunityThe choir evolved from the need of Bosnian women in Sydney for mutual support, with some women having participated in a Bosnian women's therapy groupSignificance:The choir's music is seen as more than just entertainment, providing a platform for cultural expression and a sense of community for Bosnian women in Australia
