The Carlyle House Historic Park is a historic house museum and garden located in the heart of Old Town Alexandria, Virginia. We are committed to telling the stories of people associated with this property since 1753 when the house was finished by City of Alexandria town founder, John Carlyle. Discover the stories behind the architecture of the house, why historians think the seeds of independence may have been planted here, the enslaved individuals and families who were involved in all aspects of running this 18th century household and how the property and Alexandria evolved over time. Learn about a successful furniture maker and how his savy investment in a hotel was transformed into a hospital in the Civil War with amazing stories of triumph and loss.Carlyle House offers guided tours, educational tours and programming for students up through adults, special events, live music, walking tours around historic Old Town, a museum shop and more! The site is available for rental. Carlyle House is accredited by the American Alliance of Museums and is owned and operated by the Northern Virginia Regional Park Authority.
