My name is Dana Hayes. I’m a native of Port Allen, LA. I was educated in the public schools of Port Allen from grades K-12.In 2016 was inspired to start Junior Cosmetology and made it a non profit in honor of my late mother Mrs. Ora Lee Breaux Williams. She was a hairstylist for over forty years. It was her influences that led me to pursue a career in cosmetology. As a child I watched her run her own business, achieve self wealth and enjoy her craft all while Uplifting Women’s Self esteem. Her salon was located on Michigan Ave. in the heart of the community in which she lived most of her life. There she continued providing a service to women until she decided to retire.My Mother and older sister (who is also stylist for more thank 30years) were extremely influential in my career choice. As a youth I assisted and learned under my mom as a junior stylist. I finished cosmetology school in 1998 and have not had any regrets. Being a stylist It’s the only job I’ve ever had. It is a skill I continue to use and carry with me each day. Becoming a cosmetologist gave me the opportunity to have a career in the field I love and to help and inspire others who may be considering it as a career choice or simply a kid interested in styling their own hair or their family and friends. This class will teach them the fundamentals of cosmetology.I can remember when I was in elementary school I would add hair extensions to my ponytails to make them longer. In middle school my mom taught me how to care for my hair correctly and she also taught me the basics of cosmetology. I absolutely loved the experience. It opened up so many opportunities for me.Knowing how young I was when I developed the love for cosmetology Ignited the fuse that led to the Junior Cosmetology Classes. I realized that other kids may have a love for doing hair and creating beauty in hair just as I did. So I decided to open doors, and provide the opportunity for young kids to be junior stylist and learn the fundamentals cosmetology.Over the course of my 30 years as a hairstylist I’ve encountered women who don’t know the basics of combing or styling hair. Such as parting and sectioning. And I would often think if there would have been a class like junior cosmetology many women would know at least the basics.I feel very proud, honored and accomplished when I host these classes. Classes are held once a month and I get a chance to work individually with the aspiring youth. I am excited each time to pour my knowledge into them and watch them grow into future stylist or to simply learn something new.
