Appalachian Promise Alliance exists to mobilize the communities we serve in Northeast Tennessee and Southwest Virginia to meet the basic needs of each child, youth, and family. We align with The Five Promises as outlined by America's Promise and the Search Institute as those systems and connections needed for children, youth, and adults to thrive:Caring Adults - ongoing relationships with caring adults - parents, mentors, tutors, coaches - offer support, care, and guidanceSafe Spaces - safe places with structured activities during non-school hours provide both physical and emotional safetyHealthy Starts - adequate nutrition, exercise, and health care pave teh way for healthy bodies, healthy minds, and smart habitsEffective Education - intellectual development, motivation, and skills that equip people for successful work and lifelong learning. These result from having quality learning environments, challenging expectation, and consistent guidance and mentorship.Opportunities to Help Others - opportunities to give back through community service enhance self-esteem, boost confidence, and heighten a sense of responsibility to the community.
