Cagri Yilmaz is a puppeteer, director, designer, playwright, translator, borned in 1980. Studied Philosophy in Middle East Technical University. In 1999, she participated in the workshops of the Czech Puppet artists Miroslav Trejtnar and Marek Becka. She is the founder of the companies; Ahsap Cerceve Puppet Theatre, TRUP and CagriYilmazPuppets. Since 2006, she has been conducting workshops on puppet construction and manipulation, mask-making and cine manual.Ahsap Cerceve Puppet Theater produced 12 theatre performances and participated in international festivals in Turkey, Pakistan, Israel, Czech Republic, Serbia, France, China and Georgia. CagriYilmazPuppets produced 3 theatre performances and participated in international festivals in Uruguay, Mexico, Guatemala, Colombia, Tunisia, Bulgaria, Turkey and Bosnia-Hercegovina.In addition to her works in her theatre, she had also designed puppets and masks for National Theatre and TV.In 2010 her short film “If” had the 2nd film award at 13th Flying Broom Womens' Film Fest.She translated Jayadeva Tilakasiri's “The Puppet Theatre of Asia”, David Zinder's “Body, Movement and Imagination” and Thornton Wilder’s "Our Town” in Turkish and all of them were published by Mitos-Boyut.She has two published theater plays in family play format and published by Mitos-Boyut which are; “Grimm Kardeşler/Grimms” and “Bir Flamingonun Renkli ve Çiçekli Hayatı/ ColorfulLife of a Flamingo”.In 2019 she had been to the Artist Residency of Lize Puppet Theatre in Yilan County, Taiwan. There she conducted puppet making workshops for children. Between 2019-2021 she had been to the Artist Residency of El Albergue del Arte in Mexico City, Mexico. There she produced her performance “EnSiMisma:Caminos” / “Paths” and conducted workshops on puppet carving and construction for adults as well as designing puppets for other theater companies.In 2020, Dragon Estudios made a documentary film called “Títeres, arte, rebeldía y tradición”, on the works of three puppeteers in Mexico City, one of them was Cagri Yilmaz.In 2024 she became a Berlin based artist. She has an ongoing exhibition at the PuppenTheater-Museum Berlin with some of the puppets she designed between 2007-2022. She is currently living in Berlin, Germany.
