Herbie’s Spices is an artisan spice business founded in 1997 with the objective of making high quality herbs and spices, and 100% natural spice blends available throughout Australia. Ian Hemphill (aka ‘Herbie’) and wife Liz have been involved in the herbs and spices industry since the early 1970’s. During this time Herbie has worked in the industry in Australia and overseas, from managing a spice company in Singapore, to industrial spice brokering and conducting spice classes, workshops and making many radio and television appearances on his favourite subject.Since Herbie & Liz started Herbie’s Spices in the Sydney suburb of Rozelle, the popularity of their products led to expansion in May 2003 to a factory (traditionally called a Spicery in the spice trade) at Charmhaven on the NSW scenic Central Coast.Due to popular demand, the Spicery now has a fully stocked store within, where customers can browse the shelves containing over 100 different herbs and spices and another 100+ spice mixes, all carefully blended in the Spicery. In addition, there are tester jars of every variety, so customers can see and smell them. Herbie’s friendly staff can show you all the different grades of peppercorns, or explain why smoked sweet paprika is different to Hungarian sweet paprika.
