The mission of the Juneteenth Planning Committee is to preserve and promote the broad spectrum of African American Heritage through educational and cultural activities that will benefit the community as a whole. Founded in 2005, the Juneteenth Planning Committee set out to observe and celebrate the day that all persons enslaved were legally free from slavery. It was on June 19th that the slaves in Texas were informed of their freedom thereby all slaves were free in the United States.
