The Friends of Hockessin Colored School #107, Inc (“FOHCS”) was founded in 2012 as a 509(a)2 Public Charity under IRC section 501(c)3. The FOHCS website is www.hockessincoloredschool107.org.The Hockessin Colored School #107 (“HCS #107”) was originally built and occupied as a one-room school house in 1921 and has a monumental history. HCS #107 was the center of the 1952 Delaware court case Bulah v. Gebhart, which was combined with four other cases to become the landmark U.S. Supreme Court case Brown v.Board of Education. The Bulah case ruling helped end segregation in education in Delaware, and paved the way for ending segregation in the United States.The mission of FOHCS is to build on the inspirational history of this historic School that ended segregation and transform it into a Center for Diversity, Inclusion, and Social Equity (“CDISE”).
