Before running in the half marathon during St. Jude Memphis Marathon Weekend in 2016 all I knew about St. Jude was what I had seen in commercials. I was thrilled that I raised $1,200 that first year. But after seeing the hospital, meeting patient families, hearing speeches and running through the hospital campus with patients in wheelchairs high-fiving the runners and parents holding signs like "Thank You for Saving My Child", I knew that I had to do more. One line from a mother's speech that I will never forget is "Raising the survival rate from 20% in 1963 to 80% today is great - but if your daughter is in the 20% it isn't good enough".
