We are a South Tyneside charity that works with veterans in residential care (care homes) and we refer to them as the “Forgotten Army” as once a veteran goes into care, they often lose all links to their service life. They become “veteran isolated” miss their comrades and can often become withdrawn and lonely even though they are surrounded by great carers. Unfortunately, carers because the majority have never served in the Armed Forces can’t communicate confidently with veterans about service life.Veterans for Veterans in Care strives to locate these veterans, engage with them and get them integrated into the veteran community through breakfast clubs, events and introducing them to other veteran groups. We also want to support family members, friends and carers who want to engage with veterans not just in care homes but throughout our community by helping them understand what our “Forgotten Army” has been through, how they lived and what they sacrificed for you. This will build and strengthen community relationships and give family, friends and carers the confidence to discuss a veteran’s service with a veteran. Please give what you can and lets, show our veterans they are not the “Forgotten Army” and that we appreciate their service and are here to support them in their time of need.
