Laura Jones is Fine Art - Oils and Acrylic PaintingsI Am a Contemporary Visual Artist Painting in the Realism, Impressionist and Abstract StylesI Paint What I See - Usually From Photographs; Occasionally From ImaginationI received a Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education degree from the University of Nebraska, Omaha and taught history, psychology and humanities at Mercy High School there.Born in Bessemer, Alabama in 1953, I have lived and traveled extensively throughout the United States - residing in Alabama, California, Maine, Colorado, Arizona, Ohio, Oklahoma, Missouri, Nebraska, North Carolina, Virginia and Washington. I moved to Northern Virginia in 1977 and currently reside in Manassas, Virginia.The move to Virginia led to a 32 - year career as a Department of Defense contractor and Aerospace Systems Engineer. My artistic goals were put on hold for more than three decades while I supported our nation's decision makers.In 2014, at age 61, I began painting and working as a full- time artist - a long-held dream at last realized. With no small amount of trepidation - but a great deal of joy - I exhibited my work in public for the first time in 2016."Art elicits a strong reaction any time I am exposed to it. I am happiest, and simultaneously at peace but with a heightened level of awareness, when surrounded by art. It touches my soul and is part of the essence of who I am.My goal as an artist is to create works which exhibit a level of technical competence while evoking a visceral response in the viewer. t is my hope that in sharing my work I will leave a lasting impression and that it will bring the same level of excitement toward art that I have to others.”When I hold art classes as an event it is to enable others to realize their potential through knowledge of the technical skills needed to do so.
