Brent Music Service, Lead Partner of Brent Music Education Hub, is committed to its musical development programmes and is proud to be introducing the fun and challenges of instrumental and vocal music to thousands of youngsters throughout the London borough of Brent, on a weekly basis, through its tuition services and music ensembles at its BMS Evening Centres.Through a variety of musical genres, BMS has generated an impressive collection of memorable performances for its students and ensemble members, including international tours, performances at leading UK venues and participation in the 2017 World Music Championships for Brent Concert Band.Innovative projects, programmes and events enable Brent Music Service to be a leading promoter of the proven social and educational long-term benefits of music for the younger generation.Our MissionWe aim to guide and support pupils in their musical endeavours. With our drive and passion for music we can develop and refine their musical skills, enabling them to enjoy the world of music whilst becoming well-informed and versatile with a depth of musical understanding and appreciation. Our Staff To enable us to meet the targets of our mission, BMS employs tutors who are all practising musicians in the classical, jazz, rock or world music scenes. Many have appeared on TV, film and stages all over the world, and all of them have a real commitment to passing on their skills and knowledge to the young people of Brent.BMS Evening Centres and Weekend WorkshopsBrent Music Service runs weekly evening centres and weekend workshop sessions for its collection of 16 different instrumental ensembles and choirs. (Full details of the available ensembles can be seen on the next page.)Tuition in SchoolsIn association with the many schools in the London borough of Brent, it is believed that Brent Music Service has provided instrumental and vocal tuition to over 160,000 children in the last 24 years. Its team of professional tutors also delivers innovative music education programmes, such as Music’sCool, a whole class curriculum programme for primary schools, and 7UP, a secondary school initiative to help encourage a continued curiosity in music in the transition from primary to secondary school.Whole Class Music Curriculum Teaching – Music’sCoolMusic’sCool is an exciting, multi-cultural music programme initiated by Brent Music Service and embraced by many of the borough’s primary schools, enabling children from Nursery to Year 6 to be introduced to world of music and to enjoy the opportunities offered by participation.Secondary School Programme - 7UPThrough the success of the Music’sCool programme, children leave primary school with a high level of musical attainment and knowledge, but there is often a significant drop-off in instrumental learning and progression at Year 7. To address this drop-off, Brent Music Service devised 7UP, an innovative two-year musical programme of teacher training, workshops, and performances designed to address the issues around sustained musical progression when transitioning from primary to secondary school in the London Borough of Brent.
