Founded in 1997 by Norman Nelson, this semi-professional orchestra of up to 70 musicians performed its first symphony concert in June 1998. Yariv Aloni is our new music director along with Nicholas Fairbank as Choral Director.  For each season, we offer 4 programs, special events, and the ever-popular "Fling", an open air pops concert performed each summer. In addition, small ensembles perform regularly at community events and fund raisers.As part of our commitment to support and encourage young musicians, the Sooke Philharmonic Society sponsors our annualYoung Musicians Concerto Competition.Each year, the week-longChamber Music Workshopattracts musicians from Canada, the U.S. and Britain.Since its inception, through the efforts of our Maestro and the support of many dedicated volunteers, the Sooke Philharmonic has grown to become the major musical presence it is today.
