Food Lover’s Tour – Sloe Gin Making

This tour brings back many happy memories of picking sloes with my Granny from the wild Essex hedgerown.

Using Granny’s old country recipe, we learn about the tradition of sloe berry picking.

This Tour is dedicated to the Roux Family, who continue to inspire me with their excellence in country cooking, and their Roux Scholarship!

Tour Details

2-3 miles moderate walking

Wear old walking boots that may get muddy!

Tour timings

9.15am - Tour meets outside the Budworth Hall Clock Tower in Ongar

9.15-10am - Walk to Greensted Church across the fields, along the Essex Way!

Field Walking with panoramic views over rolling fields of beautiful Essex countryside.

10am – 10.30 - History tour at Greensted church – the Oldest Wooden Church in the World.

The history will amaze you!

Coffee Stop at church - please bring your own flask of tea or coffee and a small snack

10.30am -11am - Sloe Berry Picking

11am – 11.45am - Walk down to Ongar

11.45-12 noon - Sloe Berry Demonstration and Prize Raffle at local restaurant

12 noon onwards – tour ends

Optional Pizza Lunch 12 noon onwards
