'The world isn't in your books and maps, it's out there' - J.R.R. Tolkien
Whether you're a road runner who is looking to try trail running, a hillwalker new to running or a new trail runner looking to try running in the mountains then this is the weekend for you! Two days of guided trail running in The Lake District National Park with experienced local guides who will give you advice on how to make your transition safely. We'll cover navigation, kit, training, nutrition, technique and mountain safety for running in the upland environment.
Sample mixed trails through quiet green valleys and over rocky mountainsides with our local professional running guides. Our routes will depend on the weather and your aspirations but all runners will enjoy the varied terrain and picture-perfect beauty of the Lake District, as we take the 'trail less traveled' through breathtaking mountain scenery.
The course spans two days but don't worry, you don't have to run the whole time - we do plenty of walking, chatting and sitting to soak up the views! These weekends are a relaxed and sociable journey with a distance of 8-12km per day. To find out more about what's involved visit: www.girlsonhills.com/faqs
Girls on Hills is a 'no-frills' experience - we don't include food or accommodation, allowing you the flexibility to choose your own to suit travel logistics or budget. There is everything from luxury hotels to budget accommodation available locally, such as hostels/ bunkhouses/pods.
Hit the Trail is one of Girls on Hills' 'Access Courses' and as such is perfect for those who feel impacted by barriers to participation. If you find it hard to get involved, please see our Access Fund to find out if you are eligible for financial support. We aim to support as many women as possible to experience the many health and wellbeing benefits that come with trailrunning.
Once booked, we will email you at the beginning of event week to confirm final details. This email will also include a kit list and advice on where to park. We will meet up to check kit and discuss final plans for each day over coffee before we start!
The course cost covers guiding and instruction with a Summer Mountain Leader qualified and/or Fell Running Association (FRA) accredited guide. We will encourage lift-sharing whilst in the park, to reduce environmental impact and pressure on busy parking areas. The start of this course can be accessed by public transport.
We pride ourselves on being 'approachable and relatable' so please please do get in touch with any concerns or queries you might have now or nearer to the event. We look forward to having some fun and showing you some great trail running in the Cumbrian fells!
