The main aim of Vetek (Seniority) Association – the Movement for Longevity and Quality of Life, Israel (Association No. 580538759)is to act for the advancement of healthy longevity for the entire population through scientific research, technological development, medical treatment, public health and educational measures, advocacy and social activism.Within this general aim, the Vetek Association emphasizes and promotes the amelioration of the deteriorative aging process as the main factor undermining healthy longevity.In order to help address the aging-related health challenges, the Vetek Association is uniquely poised to advance biomedical aging and longevity research in Israel. It is advised by leading Israeli and international scientists in diverse fields of biomedical aging and longevity R&D. Since its foundation by Rafi Eitan, it has been supported by noted public figures and advocates, strategically situated and connected in the Israeli and international scientific and civic establishment.The Vetek Association has been at the forefront of aging research and advocacy in Israel. It has organized or co-organized several national and international conferences on biomedical aging and longevity research in Israel, such as the conference in Bar Ilan University in 2017 co-sponsored by the Israel Ministry of Science and Technology, the conference in Weizmann Institute of Science in 2019 co-sponsored by the US NIH National Institute on Aging, and the Longevity Nation conference in 2023 in Bar-Ilan University in a partnership of over 30 national and international organizations. The next Longevity Nation conference takes place on October 28-31, 2024. https://longevitynation.org/It has organized several competitions for research students in the field of aging research, with dozens of applications from all the universities in Israel. It has produced continuous educational meetings and publications, in scientific literature, popular press and social media.It has formed partnerships and affiliations with leading relevant Israeli and international agencies and organizations, such as International Society on Aging and Disease (ISOAD), International Longevity Alliance (ILA) and Global Healthspan Policy Institute (GHPI). Together with its international partners, the Vetek Association took an active part in international campaigns for healthy longevity promotion, such as the International Longevity Month, the successful campaigns for the inclusion of aging into the WHO work program and into the International Classification of Diseases (ICD-11) and participated in international projects such as the European Innovation Partnership on Active and Healthy Aging (EU) and publications such as Encyclopedia of Gerontology and Population Aging.In Israel, the Vetek Association has petitioned and organized discussions of Israeli decision makers to support aging and longevity R&D, including the organization of special Knesset committee meetings on “Enhancing research, development and education for the promotion of healthy longevity and prevention of aging-related diseases”. Following the Vetek Association’s initiative, the latter policy topic on “Research Development and Education for Healthy Longevity” was included into the report of the Israel National Masterplan on Aging published by Knesset in 2019.Also in 2019, the association co-produced the encompassing analytical report “Longevity Industry in Israel” and accompanying position papers, popular articles and directories exploring and promoting the role of Israel in the international longevity field. In 2023, the second edition of the “Longevity Industry in Israel” report was issued, and, in cooperation with Biogerontology Research Foundation and other groups, the interactive online platform “Longevity Ecosystem in Israel” was created. https://www.longevityisrael.info/The association’s experts and leadership assisted in formulating and promoting several calls for research proposals on aging and longevity research, in Israel and internationally. The Vetek Association has been making an ongoing effort to promote Israel’s collaboration in the field of healthy longevity R&D and education with other countries, in particular the UK, US, China, Russia and other countries.Thus the association can provide critical assistance for the advancement and implementation of research, development and education for healthy longevity in Israel and cooperatively with other countries.The Vetek Association actively cooperates with like-minded individuals and organizations in Israel and abroad. In particular, the Vetek Association had operated in a strategic partnership with the Israeli Longevity Alliance (ISRLA), with the two associations sharing the same website, the same scientific advisory board and most of the activities and activists in common. Though officially these were two different registered associations, they had mostly worked together until their integration.
