Susana Behar is a Miami based singer with a distinct Jewish and Cuban heritage. Her main interest is in the diversity of traditional music and its dynamic character, as well as its relation to history, culture and storytelling. In 2015, Susana received the Individual Artist Fellowship Award in the Folk and Traditional Arts by the Florida Department of State - Division of Cultural Affairs, and in 2020, Susana served as the Artist in Residence at the HistoryMiami Museum. She is currently Artist-in Residence at Deering Estate. Susana has performed in numerous projects, festivals and concerts throughout North and South America, Israel and Japan, collaborating with various musicians from diverse backgrounds and musical traditions. Her music has been featured in the documentary ‘Adio Kerida’ of anthropologist Ruth Behar (no relation), in ‘The music from the Sunshine State’, a series of radio programs featuring folk music, recorded by National Public Radio and the Florida Department of State Division of Historical Resources, in the National Arab Orchestra’s ‘Layali al Andaluz’ concert and more recently, in the soundtrack of ‘ANUSIM’, a collaborative choreographic work by Dance NOW Miami (USA) and Damça em Dialogos (Portugal), with music by Miami based guitarist/composer, Federico Bonacossa. By incorporating elements from different musical genres and cultural traditions, Susana Behar has developed a style that feels fresh and authentic. Her music speaks to people from different backgrounds and cultures, bringing them together in a shared experience that transcends boundaries and celebrates diversity.Susana has recorded three albums: La Galana y el Mar (2009), At The Crossroads, Live (2016) and TAPIZ (2019).
