Napa Police: Ride to Live - Motorcycle TrainingThe Napa Police Department received grant funding from the California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) to step up motorcycle safety awareness with free, hands-on rider training. This grant will pay for a series of free motorcycle safety classes which allow riders to practice braking, turning, steering, entering traffic and other skills to help avoid collisions and improve rider safety on the road.The Ride to Live motorcycle training program is a FREE class presented by the Napa Police Department. The program's goal is to provide motorcycle operators with the skills to avoid or minimize collisions while enjoying their ride. Additionally, riders will be educated on some of the common equipment and riding violations encountered within the City of Napa. The course, taught by certified motor officers, focuses on the same riding techniques used by police motor officers every day. The class is 7 hours of "hands-on" motorcycle training, presented in one day, with lunch provided. If you have a desire to challenge your riding skills and increase your safety on the road, please read further to learn about registering for our course.Funding for this program is a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety.Our classes are currently held at the Napa Valley College2277 Napa Vallejo Hwy, Napa CA 94558Requirements• Riders must have basic riding skills; this class is not recommended for those who have never ridden before• Have a valid motorcycle license and proof of insurance• Provide your own street-legal motorcycle and safety equipment (helmet, gloves, boots, eye protection, etc.)• Sign a liability waiver before participation (have parent/guardian sign if a minor)What You Will Learn• Proper use of the clutch and throttle to operate within the "friction zone"• Proper head, eye and body position while turning• Low-speed maneuvering, balance, and control• Emergency braking• Collision avoidance skills• Counter steering and curve negotiationParticipants must register before attending the training.
