Born and raised in Upstate NY, the daughter of Michele Williams BSN, RN, and the mother of Carter Isaiah Williams; I Shelby Englishe Williams earned my second Associate's Degree in Nursing at Mohawk Valley Community College (Utica, NY) spring semester of 2021. I have worked as a Licensed Practical Nurse since 2008 and prior to that worked as a Certified Nurses Assistant since 2005. To prepare for nursing, I received my Associates Degree in Applied Science in 2014 at Capital Community College (Hartford, CT). I have held memberships in The National Society of Leadership and Success, The Spire Honor Society, and The Student Nurse Organization of MVCC.October (the month of harvest in my life) of 2009; I relocated to Hartford Connecticut. From August 2011 till December of 2023 I worked for a non profit organization called Community Residences Inc.. Their mission is to develop and operate quality community-based support services for children and adults, that values the individual, promotes independence, and maximizes personal choice and potential. Within this agency I worked as an LPN Coordinator - assisting with the medical care of young adults with behavioral difficulties; advocating and ensuring their needs be met. My final nursing position was the Assistant Director of Nursing; supervising 6 nurses and overseeing 20 residential programs and 1 day program. The last annual evaluation I received overall rating was 4.94/5. “Ms. Williams has done an exceptional job in her role as the Behavioral Services Assistant Director of Nursing. Shelby has proven to be very organized, thorough, and conscientious. She continues to run periodic nursing staff meetings incorporating on- call reports, licensing reviews, and important agenda items for the common goal to provide optimal coordination of care for all individuals. Shelby has also instituted monthly staff Therap meetings in order to provide a venue for in person training and maintain team approach to consistent and thorough electronic health record keeping. She has also devised her own Therap QA system to enable her to be proactive for all inspections and licensings. Shelby is always accessible and ready to help out anywhere and anytime. Shelby has grown professionally and personally in her role as ADNS; a challenging component of this position is to deal with different learning styles, job performances and personalities. All the while from 2005, I have consistently worked in the nursing home setting with the geriatric population, as I have found this specific age group to be my passion. Water's Edge Center For Health & Rehabilitation afforded me the opportunity to swell in that passion and expand my nursing skills at the bedside, all while forming lifelong relationships with coworkers who have since become family.Now with 16 years in the nursing field, I am adding the title clinical nurse consultant who specializes in quality assurance. I am the founder of SEW Nursing Consulting. SEW’s mission is to provide an exceptional class of quality assurance to aid in the delivery of the best coordination of care and safety to individuals of developmental services. SEW’s vision is to help ensure preventative health measures are obtained annually and as needed per state regulation for those in the Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDDs) community. SEW is inspired to be a resource to all nurses; more specifically to overwhelmed nurses and or agencies, who will benefit from detailed checklists to ensure proper follow up is both completed and documented in a timely fashion to ensure the best nursing care is provided. Our future vision includes growing to a platform that will offer webinars, seminars, and hands-on training to not only brand new nurses but to seasoned nurses; all those in between; who possess passion and desire in defining how to advocate, serve, and help those who aren’t able to help themselves.Moving forward in my nursing career while paying homage to both healthcare colleagues and my hometown community, I am honored to host the 2024 Nursing Shindig Utica Edition on May 4th, 2024 at 12pm. This shindig will kick off nurses week, celebrating those who are dedicated to serving our patients and communities. Remembering those who found it not robbery to help someone along the way who at some point was unable to help themselves. The purpose of this event is to empower and promote nurses within the local community. The goal for this event is to encourage networking, provide a platform for attendees to hear the stories of our nurses on why they chose their career, and of course we can't forget about the food and music to dance to. This event gifts our nurses a special occasion where they remember the reward of nursing, render unsolicited motivation to the one(s) who may be considering a nursing career, and ultimately relish in the kickoff to celebrating National Nurses Week.
