Miami Shenandoah Neighborhood AssociationOur story began in 1919 when the first platt was established just south of the Tower Theater. Soon after, developers from Ohio, Virginia and Pennsylvania rushed in, designing their own sub-divisions, all of which make up the neighborhood of Shenandoah, Miami.So, what do we do here in Shenandoah? Well, when you boast the state's highest concentration of 1920's and 1930's homes in all of Florida, you know that you are in for a life of maintenance and up-keep. But we love it! And so many neighbors beam with pride at the unique landscape that is Shenandoah.Our current projects range from beautification to preservation. But always, it's about planning, planning, planning. Thanks to our ties with city and county officials, we've been able to come up with some creative solutions that have helped us grow in concert with our neighbors and the master plan. And it all starts with respectful dialogue."Shenandoah is aboutus. It's about compromise, it's about progress," says former MSNA Secretary Donna Weaver, "Shenandoah's mission is to identify consensus and to convey that to the proper officials. We know that everyone won't agree but that doesn't mean that we can't move forward as a neighborhood."Shenandoah extends east-west from 12th Ave to 27th Ave, and north-south from Calle Ocho to Coral Way. With a spectacular view of downtown, our urban neighborhood boasts over 5,000 households thanks to the many multi-families and small "edificios" peppered throughout the area. But it is Shenandoah's distinct historic architecture and unique urban details that have put the neighborhood "on the map." It truly is a neighborhood that is so beautiful, it's precious."Shenandoah's mission is to identify consensus and to convey that to the proper officials. We know everyone won't agree but that doesn't mean that we can't move forward..."Our success is thanks to the efforts of our neighborhood volunteers. Everything begins with them. These are residents that put in their own time and energy to help carry the torch for the neighborhood. We then try to work closely with our city and county officials to achieve goals that are for the benefit of Shenandoah.THE BOARDOur Board meets monthly to help guide and maintain the business of the association. The results speak for themselves. Our neighborhood continues to grow stronger. And thanks to tools like Nextdoor and Facebook, we're able to communicate better than before.
