Karen Devaney started Soapbox Stageworks while in Philadelphia, where she was a working performer, director, writer. Her passion is diverse stories that have yet tob e told. Karen has performed, produced, directed, and written plays that have graced stages on both coasts. Her aim is to make Soapbox Stageworks a global playground for playwrights and performers. Where new works can be explored and thrive. She wants to bring people into the theatre that may have never been exposed to realms of live theatre. She is working with several organization and individuals to bring women's stories and struggles to the stage. The Spring Fling One Act Event will be donating 10% of the proceeds to Gathering for Women. This nonprofit organization in Monterey County turns the lives of homeless women into thriving success stories.Karen was raised outside of Washington D.C. and had a diverse and eclectic group of friends that have remained an enormous influence in her artistic choices. She is not only a playwright, but also writes children's books, novels, poetry, and screenplays. The Great Forgotten is a television series she wrote with her daughter, Kacie, based on their award winning play that had a sold out run at the 2015 New York City International Fringe Festival.She loves African dance, yoga, hiking and being in nature as often as possible!
