Our HistoryThe Kayla Rae' Hope Foundation was established in 2022. Their mission is to raise awareness of Sickle Cell Anemia, advocate and support Sickle Cell families, and promote a healthy network of opportunities for Sickle Cell families. The founder's family understand firsthand because their daughter Makayla was diagnosed with Sickle Cell Disease type SS at six weeks old. After a few hospital stays they discovered that there was a need of support to the families. They wondered, if they were experiencing losses as a team, what were the single families experiencing? Today, they have set a goal to assure that Sickle Cell families have access to assistance.Meet Makayla Rae'Makayla Rae' was diagnosed with Sickle Cell Disease type SS at six weeks old. She has spent a lot of time in the hospital and has left a lasting impression on many of the hospital's staff. Makayla is homeschooled along with her siblings. She enjoys math and science, but reading is a deal breaker. She is enrolled in gymnastics. Her current goal is to work hard to be able to join the gymnastics team with her sister. Makayla is a member at Abundant Love Christian Ministries. She is member of the mime dancing ministry where her Dad is their instructor. She enjoys church, youth fellowship, and good food Sunday. At her young age, Makayla understands Sickle Cell Disease and what is happening in her body. She is very conscious of resting and hydrating. She understands that other children all over the world have the same diagnosis as her. She is always suggesting ideas and things to do for the other children and families.Meet The Founder'sTerry and Cheri' Cross were married in December of 2014. They are the parents of Trinity, Elijah, Makayla, and Terri Nicole. Terry graduated from Collinsville High School in 2002. He served eight years in the United States Navy. During the pandemic he graduated with a bachelor's degree in business administration. Cheri' graduated from Cahokia High School in 2004. In 2021, she graduated with a bachelor's degree in psychology. They are the owners of a childcare center, Norrie's Play Place Academy and CherLana's Pickled Creations. They are members of Abundant Love Christian Ministries. At Abundant Love, Terry is over the sound and audio ministry. Also, he mime dances and teaches it to the youth of the church. At Abundant Love, Cheri' is a Minister. She teaches Sunday school and children's church. She is the Director of the Youth Ministry and also a member of the Pastoral Care team. They are a dynamic duo in ministry and doing the work that God calls them to.
