This 5 day course is on 26/06/2024, 27/06/2024, 10/07/2024, 11/07/2024 & 12/07/2024. All days must be attended to receive certificate.
Training will be delivered by Dr Helen Rodwell (Theraplay Practitioner, Supervisor & Trainer and co-author of the popular book Parenting with Theraplay), & the talented Jo Williams (Theraplay Practitioner, Supervisor & Trainer).
Description of course
Theraplay® workshops are intensive, active and rewarding. The number of participants is limited so that each person can receive a well-focused training experience. There will be opportunities to:
– Observe video of intervention sessions with a variety of different clients.
– Practice the use of Theraplay techniques.
– Plan how to use Theraplay with clients in your setting.
Completion of Theraplay and MIM training is the first step in the Theraplay® Practitioner certification process.
Objectives and Outcomes from the course
Knowledge of how to administer the Marschak Interaction Method (MIM) including methods of recording non-verbal and verbal behaviours, making inferences and formulating hypotheses.
Knowledge of how a MIM report is organised.
Knowledge of how a feedback session is conducted.
Knowledge of how the MIM is used as a guideline for planning treatment.
Understanding of the history and theory of Theraplay.
Increased knowledge in the interactional basis of parent-infant attachment and self-esteem.
Skill development in the differentiation and use of the 4 Theraplay dimensions.
Knowledge of how Theraplay is used to meet the needs of children across a range of issues including foster and adopted children, neurodivergent children, teens, and traumatised children.
Knowledge of how parents are guided to empathically observe and participate in Theraplay sessions aimed at fostering better parent-child relationships.
Skill development in group work.

Training is aimed at professionals and practitioners, including:
Clinical, Counselling, Educational and Forensic Psychologists; Social Workers; Psychiatrists; Counsellors; Family therapists; Play therapists; Mental Health Nurses; Learning mentors; Teachers; Psychotherapists; Family Support Workers
Pre-requisite
Attendees will be required to sign up to Theraplay UK's best-practice agreement (in relation to clinical responsibility and professional liability insurance) when using Theraplay-informed principles. Please email: office@jigsawpsychology.co.uk to be sent this agreement.
