Amy Maguire was born and raised in Oklahoma City. She is proud to honor her American Indian heritage as a member of the Citizen Potawatomi Nation and has fond memories of learning about Native American culture and art at a very early age. This helped foster Amy’s love and appreciation for the beauty in all things. As Amy says, “Everything I see is art. Everything tells a story. I have the opportunity to create art when I paint, when I style my home, when I choose clothes to wear, when I set a table-throughout my lifestyle. My life is a giant canvas and everything inspires me.”It was during her teen years, that Amy first took a keen interest in drawing and painting at Bishop McGuinness Catholic High School. From that moment on, making art became Amy’s passion. She went on to attendTexas Christian University in Fort Worth, graduating with a BS degree in ART and Design / Art History. She spent her summers traveling abroad with the TCU Art History program in Europe and Asia -specificallyItaly, France, London, Thailand, China and Hong Kong. These worldly influences are very evident in the artists’ work today.Amy also spent time living and studying in the Dominican Republic attending Parson’s School of Design, Altos de Chavon, where she honed her skills in Art and Illustration. As a single mom, Amy raised two lovely daughters, Olivia and Grace, and when they went off to college, Amy threw herself into her art, full time, working with famed Oklahoma artist, Dennis Johnson. It was then that Amy truly blossomed and developed her voice as a painter.Major influences in Amy’s work include William de Kooning, Paul Klee, Picasso, and Gustav Klimt. Amy considers her paintings to be about creating balance in the mind, the heart and the soul.“Always keep your eyes open. Keep watching. Because what you see can inspire you.” Grace Coddington
