What we're aboutThe Theosophical Society is a not-for-profit organisation that promotes non-dogmatic study of all the Great Wisdom Schools of past antiquity as well as the current Great Religions of the world. One of its main founders was Helena Petrovna Blavatsky who studied under Tibetan Yogic Masters and wrote such monumental works as Isis Unveiled and The Secret Doctrine to bring the ancient teachings of the Vedas and Buddhism to the Western World.The practical teachings within theosophy highlight the need to understand ourselves, described by a highly revered past Theosophist, N Sri Ram as the "Science of the Self" - both the higher Self which can only be known in relation to the lower or not-Self. There is no absolute separation between the two as there can be no separation of the Spirit from matter or form. They are all just different manifestations or reflections of the One. Theosophy is an ongoing individual search for the true meaning of life and a truer understanding of the Real from the unreal.The Theosophical Society was formed to help guide humanity by promoting and supporting the evolution of consciousness within individuals-—by becoming more conscious within our own lives, we help to bring about a new consciousness within humanity as a whole. However, in this age of intellectualism, spiritual knowledge is decreasing, leaving an emptiness that many seek to fill through materialism. A true theosophist strives to delve into the Ancient Wisdom with the enthusiasm of a seeker aiming to discover his own journey to gain knowledge, which then expresses itself in the everyday actions of life. Theosophy is an individual's unique journey of self-discovery and not just the acceptance of second-hand knowledge.The Blavatsky Lodge at St. Leonards offers a variety of ways to promote your spiritual journey from weekly guest speakers covering interesting topics relevant to our contemporary world, book, video and study groups covering a wide range of literature including theosophical, philosophical and scientific material, meditation classes, domestic and international spiritual retreats and much more. We also offer a comprehensive lending library - one of the largest in the Southern Hemisphere - which is jam-packed with books on all manner of spiritual, philosophic, scientific and personal growth subjects. Feel free to come along and browse. You can view our calendar of events and you are welcome to attend any of our events - e.g. our Wednesday events such as our guest speaker event at 1 pm and stay on refreshments which is followed by a short meditation class or browse our well-stocked library. You will enter via our reception/lounge area where there is a small selection of very inexpensive second-hand books for sale. We hold our smaller study groups in the downstairs rooms but the Wednesday talk is held in our upstairs auditorium where you will be greeted and asked to sign in and then take a seat to enjoy the talk. Please note that the number attending will always be more than shown on Meetup as regular members attend but do not register on Meetup. Attendance at activities varies in number generally from 10-50 depending upon the event.A small donation is welcomed to support our Lodge for any of our events.
