Activities Council of Thomson

Since 1974, the Activities Council of Thomson (ACT) has worked to develop the appreciation and promotion of music, arts and culture to the communities of East Central Georgia. Our fundraising efforts focus on musical heritage, and in 1999 their main fundraiser became the Blind Willie McTell Blues Festival, which draws people from all over the country to the small town of Thomson, GA. Blues legend Blind Willie McTell, who was born in McDuffie County Georgia, became one of the most accomplished twelve string guitar players of his time and his influence is still heard in modern music today. ACT was worked tirelessly to insure that his life and musical legacy are not forgotten. Through collaborative partnerships with local groups, ACT has also been able to present smaller concerts, music workshops, community lectures. ACT is an important contributor to the quality of life, and economic development of its community and region.
