Our Brand StoryFounded in 2016 by Oniatta Effendi, Baju by Oniatta (loosely translated to Apparels by Oniatta) started as an extension of her tribute to batik, a cloth with deep meaning for her and those like her - children of the Nusantara. An educator turned cultural entrepreneur, her designs pay homage to the fabled stories behind the centuries old motifs and culture of her Javanese ancestry while keeping the magic of batik alive.True to the original intent, Baju by Oniatta has become a doorway into the exploration of a wonderful world filled with centuries old traditions, artistry and craftsmanship through active advocacy and outreach to the wearers of batik today. This led to the formation of Galeri Tokokita (loosely translated to Our Gallery) in 2019 where the brand continues to cultivate connections, whether between past and present or between the artisan and wearer - reshaping the perception of batik appreciation.Nestled in the vibrant heart of Singapore, the brand is on a mission to carve out a space where the splendour of the Nusantara traditions not only survives but thrives as contemporary interpretations.
