City of Miami Parks & Recreation Department

Expanding environmental conservation and education of our three natural areas located at Simpson Park, Virginia Key Beach North Point Park, and Alice Wainwright Park and other City of Miami parks through community involvement is a strategic goal the Parks and Recreation Department. Within these parks, we can find unique ecosystem worthy of conservation and preservation. Our current environmental programs involve restoration efforts in order to keep these ecosystems healthy. With your involvement, this critical initiative is possible. Through this service-learning opportunity volunteers will have the opportunity to learn about our unique local habitats and ecosystems a well as identifying various native and non-native invasive plant species. The programs involve; the exotic invasive removal; to keep them from dominating and displacing our native plant species, the seed propagation at the nursery on site, the planting of trees and beach clean-ups as well as research and monitoring of species.
