ENSOMBLE is a collective of many things - of ideas, modalities, beliefs, practitioners and instruments - but above all, sound.Just as music enhances our everyday lives, so too can sound therapy. From mindful practices such as deep listening, to receiving a Himalayan bowl massage, the fundamental importance is being able to truly hear sound and receive the benefits thereof with an open heart and mind.Philip has had music in his life from a very early age, starting the classical piano at four and then progressing to university and postgraduate studies in chamber music. Restless to experience more of the world, he then spent a few years traveling, teaching English, trying industrial design and then eventually returning to music via teaching.Through teaching his musical palate broadened into African drumming and marimbas, Balinese gamelan music and more, thereby discovering the therapeutic benefits of communal music making. Gongs entered the classroom and then slowly, subconsciously into his life. After twenty years of music teaching, he decided to focus on the therapeutic benefits of sound entirely. He devoted two years of study in sound therapy, first with the British Academy of Sound Therapy (BAST) where he completed a year long diploma using gongs, Himalayan bowls and crystal bowls, and then another year-long diploma in sound healing with gong master Sheila Whittaker and the College of Sound Healing. He has also had intensive training with Yin Xiong in South Africa and completed a course in Gong Meditation with Yogi Mehtab Benton in the USA. He is currently based in London, UK, where he holds regular gong baths, gong meditation classes and works with individual and corporate clients, and especially schools.
