Shoreline Rescue Club

Hi, I’m Michael Harvey—founder of Island Life Apparel Inc. and organizer of the Shoreline Rescue Club.I’m a teacher and rugby coach at West Vancouver Secondary School, where I lead the rugby program and coach the junior boys’ team. I grew up on the North Shore, went to Rockridge Secondary, and went on to play varsity rugby at the University of Victoria, where I also captained the BC provincial team. Those years shaped me—instilling a deep love for community, nature, and giving back.I’ve worked extensively in inclusive recreation, including time with Recreation Integration Victoria, Autism Services, Easter Seals Camp Shawnigan, and Special Olympics BC. Living with dyslexia and ADD has fueled my passion for teaching, supporting youth, and building community through meaningful, hands-on action.Outside the classroom, I’m an avid skier, hiker, biker, and runner. I feel most at home on the beaches and trails of the Lower Mainland, Hornby Island, Salt Spring, Bowen, and Vancouver Island—places that inspired my love of the Pacific Northwest and led to the creation of both Island Life Apparel and the Shoreline Rescue Club.What is the Shoreline Rescue Club?Founded through Island Life Apparel, the Shoreline Rescue Club is a community-powered beach cleanup initiative that brings people together across British Columbia to protect and restore the coastline. Once a month, we host cleanups on both the mainland and the Gulf Islands—removing plastic, styrofoam, and marine debris from beaches we all love.Whether you’re a student, local resident, outdoor enthusiast, or simply want to give back, you’re welcome here.
