The Long Walk is a charitable organization established to raise awareness and improve the health and life opportunities of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Inspired by AFL legend Michael Long's 2004 walk from Melbourne to Canberra, the organization seeks to bring Indigenous issues to the forefront of Australia's national agenda.Each year, The Long Walk hosts a commemorative community event in Melbourne, where thousands participate in a walk from Federation Square to the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) before the annual Dreamtime at the 'G AFL match. This event celebrates and recognizes Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and peoples.The organization also offers educational programs, such as "Walk the Talk," aiming to integrate Indigenous history and perspectives into classrooms across Australia. By empowering educators and fostering understanding, The Long Walk strives to achieve genuine change and reconciliation.Through its initiatives, The Long Walk continues Michael Long's vision of promoting unity and respect for Australia's First Nations peoples.
