The grand opening of the 757 Makerspace: Hampton! is coming to Fort Monroe on Friday, April 1, 2022. 757 Makerspace has expanded its presence to better serve the region and more particularly, the Virginia Peninsula. The Fort Monroe location provides 12,733 square feet of creative space in an ideal setting just outside the moat of the historic fort at 16 Murray Street. Beau Turner, CEO, is excited to be on the Peninsula and stated, “This has been a great opportunity to partner with the Hampton Economic Development Authority, Hampton City Schools, the Fort Monroe Authority and the City of Hampton to expand opportunities for artists and makers in the region. The funding provided through the Resurgence grant has allowed us to acquire some specialty tools that we have had our eye on for a long time. We cannot wait to share this space with new members on the Peninsula side, as well as with our current members across the water.”The Makerspace is outfitted with a wide selection of tools and specialized areas including a wood shop, metal shop, sewing lab, electronics lab, CNC machines, laser cutters, 3d printers, molding, casting, and more. The idea is to provide a shared space with all the equipment necessary to bring creative ideas and works to life through active collaboration. The Makerspace also serves as a co-working studio and a business location for local startups. To learn more about becoming a member visit 757makerspace.com.
