Amateur Astronomers Association of Pittsburgh

Founded in 1929 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in 1929 by Leo Scanlon and Chester B. Roe, the Amateur Astronomers Association of Pittsburgh (AAAP) welcomes people of all backgrounds to explore the wonders of the night sky. What began as a small group of local telescope makers has grown into one of the nation’s largest and most active astronomy organizations.Despite Western Pennsylvania’s often challenging sky conditions, AAAP’s diverse membership spans preschoolers to professors and astrophysicists to casual stargazers. Committed to public outreach and education, the AAAP strives to share the joys of astronomy with everyone.
