Athena (Kasike) Guice is a Floribbean, Black-Borikua full spectrum doula, organizer, and policy strategist with over a decade of experience at the intersection of reproductive justice, legislative advocacy, and perinatal care. She is the founder of Birthers of Civilization, a hybrid initiative that blends grassroots doula care, childbirth education, and doula training with policy organizing and community-led systems change. From the Florida House of Representatives to statewide reproductive justice campaigns, Athena’s leadership has built bridges between advocacy and lived experience—birthing not just babies, but powerful policy ideas and visionary coalitions.A seasoned full-spectrum doula, educator, and legislative strategist, Athena has been recognized by the National Black Caucus of State Legislators (Staff Leadership Council) as a Top 22 Legislative Staffer for her "sincere professionalism and dedication to service". Her work centers the needs and brilliance of Black and Brown birthing people, drawing from her own story as a young parent, educator, and cultural healer. Through Birthers of Civilization, she leads efforts to reclaim birth as a radical site of transformation, liberation, and community power.The People's ROOTS & WOMBS events are a conscious collaboration with Marisa Colón, a Traditional Midwife, birth worker of 15 years, Herbalist, mom of 5 and founder of The Better Birth Worker.Together they are committed to offering accessible, culturally grounded perinatal education rooted in healing justice and collective care.
