The CHS Blackhawk Band Parent Booster’s (BBPB) mission is to support the students, staff, and families of the CHS Band Program in their efforts to reach a high level of musical achievement and personal character; to ensure that the band students are able to showcase their musicianship and gain valuable insight from judges and clinicians by performing at a variety of venues and competitions; and to enable every student who wishes to participate the opportunity to be a part of the CHS Band community. Each year we help cover the fair-share costs for students in the marching band and color guard who would not otherwise be able to participate. The Cheney High School (CHS) Band Program is a vital part of our community, participating in events and performances throughout the Spokane area. The Band Program’s mission and atmosphere develop students musically and help them grow into responsible young adults for our schools and communities. Through Marching Band, as well as other ensembles, the students in band learn important life skills, such as teamwork and collaboration; leadership; resilience and perseverance; respect and compassion; integrity; and self-discipline. The Blackhawk band and color guard members work hard and spend most of their free time preparing their performances for each other and their communities. As parents we appreciate the structure and high expectations for behavior that the Cheney Band Program requires of our students. Furthermore, the program emphasizes being a part of something bigger, and developing a supportive and inclusive band family.BBPB supports the band and students year-round, from marching band (building props; providing balanced, scratch-cooked meals and snacks to the students and staff to sustain them when they are on fall trips; and logistical support) to the Lilac Parade and Graduation days in the spring. In between we provide financial support to the Jazz band as they travel to festivals and for the elementary and middle school honor bands when they explore more challenging material. Throughout the year we pride ourselves in being the support system through which band parents can obtain information about the various opportunities their music students have at Cheney and on collaborating with the other booster clubs in the school. On top of that, in 2022 we committed to the CHS Band's effort to take the Marching Band and Color Guard to the Bands of America Grand National Championships to compete on the national stage in November, 2024. We intend to help facilitate similar trips every few years to ensure that all band and color guard members in the program get the opportunity to experience that challenge.
