The FBA Civil Rights Law Section’s continuing education opportunities are as diverse as our membership. In the past few years, we have sponsored or co-sponsored numerous online and in-person panels about § 1983 practice, fair housing law, qualified immunity, COVID responses, implicit bias, disability inclusion, and other topics. We sponsored a panel at the 2021 FBA Annual Meeting on First Amendment Rights in schools, featuring Mary Beth Tinker (the student in the watershed First Amendment case Tinker v. Des Moines Independent School District), and we co-sponsored a panel at the 2022 FBA Annual Meeting on the civil rights implications of artificial intelligence. We will continue our quality programming into 2023. Most importantly, our section will be sponsoring our biannual Civil Rights Etouffee in New Orleans on Feb. 2-3, 2023. This day-and-a-half CLE provides training for attorneys who are new to civil rights cases or for whom civil rights is old hat. Check out the lineup and register (starting in November 2022) at www.Etouffeelaw.com!The Section offers huge value for its members. We have once again been honored with the FBA’s Section and Division Recognition Award, which is a testament to our strength and focus on continuing legal education programs, our exceptional quarterly newsletter, and other professional development programs and opportunities.
