Foraged Pigment Art is a small art business run by Hayley Dayis and Alexander Fals. We are foraged pigment painters, which means that our work is made with clays and soft stones that we dig directly out of the ground, process by hand into paint, and apply to canvas. Our technique originates from Alexander’s traditional family method of making paint from minerals found in the volcanic Andes mountain range of Cauca, Colombia. Every winter we live in Colombia foraging for pigments and painting. Each of the hundreds of vibrant tones we find are totally unmodified by artificial process, bringing meaning and vibrant beauty to our subjects. We sell framed original pieces, archival quality prints of our paintings on cotton paper, and greeting cards.
