The Hobart League of Competitive Gamers (CoGs) is a focus group at The Hobart Games Society (HoGS) that meets once a month with the special aims of CoGs:Meeting once per month - We run a dedicated monthly event to promote the ideas of CoGs. We generally host one, two or three tables in a homely environment, with some light background music (sometimes game themed from melodice), some snacks to share, tea, some red wine and friendly players. The whole point of CoGs is to demonstrate that competition can be and is a friendly and jovial endeavour.Regular players, playing regular games- we aim to create a scenario that requires effort to produce: sitting down with folk who all know the game at hand (and who need at most a quick revision). To wit, CoGs is always looking for regular players and aims to play the favourites again and again and again to get better at them.Interaction Imperative- The very reason we come together to play is to interact with other people. Multiplayer-solitaires are not our thing.Embrace competition- We don't believe competition is bad, we indulge in it. One mantra is Competitive in play, collaborative in life. Another is Cooperate to Compete. Game play, we believe is, by its nature competitive, players compete against each other individually or in teams, or together against the mechanic of a game or puzzle. There is always something to work to beat, together, or individually, even if it's against your past self, and besting yourMaintain leaderboards- By recording all our game results and apply a rating algorithm to them (current TrueSkill) to maintain leaderboards that are presented at: https://leaderboard.spaceInterested?Drop us a line and we'll get in touch. We love new faces, and ideally to see them return again and again.
