Keswick Museum is an Accredited Museum. Visitors are able to see different objects from our reserve / research collection every time they visit. There will also be a rolling programme of special exhibitions throughout the year. We have a unique collection in a heritage settingKeswick Museum was founded in 1873 by the Keswick Literary & Scientific Society. At the end of 1874 the museum moved into the Moot Hall and remained there for 23 years until its new home in Fitz Park was built, opening in 1898.This was the earliest purpose built museum in Cumbria. We care for and share about 20,000 objects of all sorts which reflect life in the Keswick area. Our collection themes consist of:• Landscape & natural history• The lives of local people – domestic and community• Social and industrial history• Local art, artists & writers, crafts & crafts peopleWe aren't just a museum we are also a community hub!We are a place where local people can share their skills and stories and pride in their home town. We have a social conscience; we provide a place to meet and work for local groups such as Amy’s Care and our Café West is run by local people with learning disabilities, giving them a chance to learn, work, and meet people in their community. We pride ourselves on important resources and collections we provide. We also link activities to young people in our local community to help them understand this special place, so it is nurtured for future generations.
