NIH Community Orchestra

Since 1996, the all-volunteer NIH Community Orchestra (NIHCO) has united the musical talent of NIH employees, retirees, and community members. Free-admission concerts keep classical music accessible, especially as we welcome new audiences across Montgomery County, Maryland. Led by Music Director Philip Espe since 2022, his frequent programming of works from beyond the Western canon -- including those by living composers of color -- honors the community-building, multicultural legacy established by NIHCO's founder, the late Gary Daum.
