Janet "Jan" Morgan is a ceramic artist and aspiring potter based in South Wales. Making quirky, original, thrown, hand built and augmented functional ware and ornaments featuring aspects of nature and fantasy creatures. Jan works mainly in white earthenware decorated with coloured underglazes, slips and oxides. Using techniques such as sculpting, carving and sgraffito to bring the collection to life.Jan successfully made it to the quarterfinal of The Great Pottery Throwdown Series 7 which aired in January 2024. Fans remember fondly her belly dancing tea pot & mugs, steam punk/Christmas flat backs, raku alpaca and Oak tree water feature, as well as her week one 'Hero' topping the sauce pot of the Sunday dinner set. Jan embraced this challenge with all the joy of the clay discovery journey, taking on techniques and clays for mammoth builds she would never have had the opportunity to build otherwise. This experience has galvanised her desires to share the wellbeing and mindfulness the clay gives her, by sharing it with others. Starting her beginner workshops in January 2025.Following a request from the local village community she has designed workshops easily managed by beginners to produce useable pieces by introducing techniques each workshop from slab building, to coiling, sculpting and a range of decoration techniques.
