SOAK Live Art is a new platform for performance in Plymouth.We showcase cutting-edge work across live art, dance, theatre, poetry and experimental sound/music practice.SOAK stands for Support Our Artist Kin. We aim to celebrate work that breaks the mould of a mainstream gallery or theatre and to build an inclusive creative community of local artist and audience kin. We host experimental performance nights alongside ‘SOAK Salons’ where artists and audiences gather to discuss new performance work.SOAK curates a two-fold programme of monthly events at Leadworks:1. SOAK Live Art NightsLive Art is a co-creative act between artists and audiences. Our bi-monthly performance night at Leadworks focuses on new, cutting-edge work by emerging and established artists across different artistic practices. Through creating a regular space for new performance, we aim to engage local artists and audiences with supporting new homegrown Live Art.2. SOAK SalonsSOAK Salons are a place for practice-based dialogue amongst performance artists and audiences. Alongside our regular performance night, these bi-monthly sessions (at Leadworks) will include artist-led talks and workshops reflecting on the work shared at the previous live art night. Each session is an opportunity for discussion, to share responses to the work and to gain new insights into artistic practice. The aim is to develop a dialogue and build a creative community that supports new ideas.Supported by the Arts Institute at the University of Plymouth and public funding from Arts Council England, SOAK is running a year-long programme of performance events at Leadworks, Plymouth.
